Extra-curricular Activities

Extra-curricular and cultural activities are organized after lessons, such as traditional Russian matryoshka (nesting doll) painting and learning to play the balalaika, Russian folk song singing and acting in Russian plays at the Russian Theatre Studio! A personal approach is adopted in all matters, which is what has helped YRLC to establish the long record of student satisfaction of which it is proud.

Events such as activities, excursions and parties will be arranged so that YRLC students will be able to socialise with native Russian students. There will be a possibility to
study and work with Russian little children, school children or adults, teaching English and other languages. We also provide help in organizing your trips during your weekends and breaks. To unwind occasionally from your studies why not indulge your fun or creative side by spending some time on extra-curricular activities. These may also be helpful to you in picking up a skill and also in understanding Russian culture and traditions. you could be spoilt for choice. Why not learn how to paint Russian matryoshka dolls in the traditional way or learn to play the balalaika or bayan,or even sing Russian folk songs. Alternatively , why not take classes in acting at the Russian Theatre Studio, which performs works by the classical Russian authors. You can also take a course on the Russian Cinema, covering the early Soviet classics through to current contemporary films, watching these on DVD. We can also arrange lessons for students with a musical bent on whole range of string, wind instruments, the piano and even opera singing.

These activities are complemented by opportunities to attend theatrical productions at the Volkov Drama Theatre, the first purpose built theatre in Russia, Yaroslavl Youth theatre and many other theatres; or attend concerts at the Yaroslavl Philharmonic Hall, famous for its organ and Symphonic Orchestra. There is also a Jazz Club, for those of you who are jazz buffs.

If you wish to pursue one or two of these activities, YRLC will work out an individual timetable for you to fit these around your set language studies. The charges for these activities, which are payable separately by students, are available at YRLC.
